Killer applications for the Mac,
I'm sure there are some for Windows, but frankly who cares...

  By Dennis Fletcher
This issue will focus on tools promoting your web site on a budget. A tight budget, a non-exisistant budget, for FREE.
"Build it and they will come" might apply to coliseums, but not web sites In fact building it is just the beginning. That's why I love this little freeware application. In fact, I love it so much, I'm going to give it a banner on this page. "Dump Truck" does the job of URL submissions to the major search engines. And it does it with a minimum of effort. A simple interface, simply title your job, enter a valid e-mail address, list your URL's and push the button. "Dump Truck" allows you to save your settings/jobs to recall later for resubmission's, and also allows for additions to the list of search engines in what amounts to a simple text file (you will need the appropriate URL's and syntax).
Here's the best part, I works & it's free (for now). It handles most of the search engines that the "Free Submission" sites offer, but with two major differences.
1. you don't have to fill out pages of forms of personal data for the demographics file that the free submission services extract from you in exchange for their free service (can be almost as time consuming as submitting directly to the search engines).
2. You can do it from the comfort of your own computer (yes, it runs in the background).
The only problem I encountered in my use of "Dump Truck" was difficulty with the Lycos and Infoseek submissions. Difficult to tell at this time if it was the application or the site, but I would recommend opening the "engine" file with Simple Text (after making a back-up copy of the file, of course) and deleting the two mentioned search engines (or save them to a separate file, you'll find Lycos already in an isolated file) and their accompanying submission strings. I would also recommend disabling Norton "Filesaver's" scan after "xx" minutes of inactivity feature and Apple's Energy Saver "Sleep Mode".
l like it! It shows real promise. Hit the link below.
Bear in mind this application is in the Beta stage, do not be careless.
